Governor Bentley Pardons Turkeys
Governor Robert Bentley pardoned two turkeys at the Governor’s mansion, today. The birds – Clyde and his girlfriend Henrietta – Were taken from Bates Turkey Farm in Greenville. Bill Bates and his family has helped the state celebrate every Thanksgiving since 1949. After the pardoning ceremony, Governor Bentley presented the Bates family with a commendation for their father’s role in the Thanksgiving tradition. Bates’ children received the commendation for their father…Who died in August. They plan to spend this Thanksgiving with their mother…Reflecting on a lifetime of wonderful memories. As for the turkeys – the Commissioner of Agriculture says Clyde and Henrietta will be on display at the State Farmer’s Market.
