Piedmont Ready For Rivalry Against Madison Academy

Friday, November 20, 2015

The high school sports calendar is filled with exciting moments and seemingly over the last few years Piedmont and Madison Academy have produced those moments in a range of sports. This week, they are at it again on the gridiron.

The rivalry between the Bulldogs and Mustangs is not a geographical one but one that is gaining importance with each meeting. The Mustangs slipped out of Piedmont with a 34-33 overtime win two years ago and on Friday night Piedmont will have their shot at revenge as they travel north to face the defending 3A state champions. One of the interesting storylines of this year's matchup is injuries. Piedmont has suffered blows to a few starters and Madison Academy will be without 4-star offensive lineman Austin Troxall and star running back Malik Miller who injured his knee in their first round game against Weaver.

Despite the injuries, Piedmont has put together a strong series of performances recently. The Bulldogs enter the matchup on a seven game winning streak and during that span they are outscoring opponents 286-43. It's not just the offense playing well, the defense has posted four shutouts in the last seven games.

TV24 will have the score of Piedmont vs. Madison Academy and every other playoff game in the state on the Pigskin Roundup on Friday at 10:30pm.
