Remembering Our Fallen

The Calhoun County Veterans Organization has brought a travelling memorial to remind people across Calhoun County of the tremendous cost of our freedom. The memorial is visiting the Calhoun County Administration Building until December 7th. “Remembering Our Fallen”, a war memorial consists of individual state memorials created to remember our country’s Fallen from The War on Terror since the Twin Towers fell on September 11, 2001. But unlike most war memorials made of brick and mortar, these are designed to travel so that more people can have the opportunity to remember. It features 108 Alabama service members killed while deployed in service to our country. Each individual state memorial includes military and personal photos of our Fallen who called that state home and died from physical wounds suffered in the war zone. They hope to have all 50 exhibits brought together for a National Tour. Until that time, the completed memorials remain in their home state and travel to hometowns of the Fallen and other communities, often enhanced by Legion or Patriot Guard Rider escorts and opening ceremonies.
