Alabama Agriculture in the Classroom

Thursday, December 3, 2015

Calhoun County Schools is the only system in East Alabama to get a mini grant from Alabama Ag in the Classroom. And for the past two years White Plains Elementary School Kindergarten teacher Abbie Keel has promoted Ag literacy for her students with the $500 grant. Each year the Alabama Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation make grants available for classroom projects that integrate agriculture into curriculum areas during the school year. Keel has brought agriculture to her students by way of a chicken incubator. This year Keel was given the Ag in The Classroom Excellence in Teaching About Agriculture award. In June of 2016 she will represent Alabama in Phoenix, Arizona and compete for a national teacher of the year award.
