Two elderly bed-ridden women are both dead after a structure fire in Choccolocco. The Quad City Volunteer Fire Department responded to the report of a fire taking place at approximately 1:30AM at 521 Reneau Street. According to Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Matthew Wade the home was fully consumed by the fire by the time the Sheriff’s office arrived on the scene. A family of 9 people awoke to smoke coming from a window air condition unit. Wade says as they exited the home, 65-year-old Emillee Diane Brock and 91-year-old Daisy Bell Haynes were not able to be evacuated. Wade says he can’t stress enough the need for smoke detectors in the home. He says having one saves lives.
