Jury Recommends Sentencing for Towels

A jury recommends the death penalty for an Etowah County man convicted of killing his girlfriend's young son. The jury made the recommendation for Kevin Towles today after deliberating for just one hour. Yesterday, they returned a guilty verdict against Towles in the death of 5-year-old Geontae Glass. Prosecutors say Towles beat the boy to death back in 2006. A jury convicted Towles in the case in 2009 but a state appeals court later overturned the conviction and granted Towles a new trial. Sentencing is set for March 9th. At that time, the judge can follow the jury's recommendation of death or give Towles life without parole.
