Storm Markers

One local community is taking action to stop stream damage in its community. According to officials, the culprit is often stormwater runoff and a host of other sources including pet waste, lawn fertilization and pesticide application. Choccolocco Creek Program Director Christy Claes-Downs says this morning her organization along with other community agencies placed storm markers in Anniston. She adds that the region’s stormwater management practices are essentially designed to restore or mimic some natural processes. Downs says the markers will make the effort more efficient and that the city’s markers came from generous community funding. According to the Environmental Protection Agency many cities are beginning to realize the many stormwater benefits of stormwater management practices that conserve forests and watersheds.
