Christmas Celebration Controversy

The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation is asking Representative Mack Butler of Rainbow City for emails, contracts, and financial records related to a planned live nativity event in Rainbow City next week. The Christmas celebration is planned for December 23 in Rainbow City. According to Butler, the city is not involved in next week’s event, which will include a live nativity and worship. He says he is not involved in an official government capacity and that it is private citizen Mack Butler that’s participating. Butler says he didn’t ask permission from the city and adds no one is raising money or paying out any money related to the event. Butler’s Facebook page says there will be carols and a reading of the Christmas story. There will be donated food, such as hot chocolate, cookies and cider available. There will also be off-duty police officers providing crowd control, and a volunteer clean-up crew will clear away any trash following the event.
