The Department of Transportation says they may shift traffic onto the new Anniston Eastern Bypass on Monday with weather permitting. According to ALDOT first the ramps will open and signals will be in operation on State Route 21 at the Bypass overpass. The Bypass will become U-S 431; therefore traffic should follow signs at the ramps in order to get to U-S 431 North or South. Work will then begin to shift U-S 432 southbound road into the inside lane and divert over into the new northbound road which will be separated by barrier wall. Detours will be as follows: Sprague Avenue will exit on Glade Road, Lindale Drive will exit on Whiteside Avenue, and Whiteside Avenue traffic will need to travel the old U-S 431. Old U-S 431 will dead-end at Whiteside Avenue, which will be open on both sides. The Anniston Bypass will become U-S 431 at the time it opens.
