2016 Alabama Legislative Session Begins

The Alabama legislature is back in session today, trying to address what is expected to be a budget shortfall. Democrats want to make sure the legislature does not cut services. They’re proposing a higher property tax rate and expanding Medicaid to create extra cash flow. Republican lawmakers have been against new taxes. One bipartisan proposal has been to establish a lottery—something Alabama citizens voted down in 1999.
