The 2016 Alabama primaries will be held on Tuesday, March first. and as the election draws near the Calhoun County Absentee Election office is working to ensure that eligible voters are aware of their right to vote and have the tools and resources to submit an absentee ballot. An absentee ballot is a vote cast by someone who is unable or unwilling to attend the official polling station. Calhoun County Absentee Election Manager Shasta Platt says citizens register to vote and request an absentee ballot by filling out an application and mailing it to the Calhoun County Absentee Election office. Officials say numerous methods have been devised for absentee voting, increasing the ease of access to absentee ballots. It is seen as one way to improve voter turnout. Platt says some counties require that a valid reason, such as infirmity or travel, be given before a voter can participate in an absentee ballot. She adds that the voter is required to make sure their personal information is correct before submitting the application. Since requirements vary, voters should consult ALABAMAVOTES.GOV and check the instructions to determine submission deadlines and rules for Alabama absentee ballots. The Calhoun County Absentee Election Office is located on Noble Street on the backside of the Administration Building. Their office hours are from Monday through Friday from 8:00AM until 4:30PM, except on state holidays.
