Local Police Pulling Kratom From Store Shelves
An over the counter drug that reports show is as dangerous as heroin is on the radar of a local police department. Kratom is a drug that in small doses acts as a stimulant, and, in higher doses, it becomes a sedative. And as of Thursday, Oxford Police warned local convenience stores to remove any substances containing the synthetic drug. Oxford Police Department Investigator Jason Webb says the drug is made from the leaves of trees that grow in Southeast Asia. Kratom is on the watchlist put out by the US Drug Enforcement Agency. According to reports, people who have used Kratom show up in emergency rooms complaining of symptoms similar to heroin withdrawal. Experts say daily use can create unpleasant side effects. These include nervousness, aggression, sleeplessness and tremors.
