Woman Charged with Endangerment of a Child

A Gadsden woman has been arrested and charged with chemical endangerment of a child. Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin says that 25-year old Kendall Lauren Cook is facing the charge after admitting ti using heroin while pregnant. She also tested positive for heroin and methamphetamine just days before delivering her baby. Officials say that she also tested positive for the opioid Subutex at the time of the baby's birth. Cook is currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond. As a condition of her bond, she will also be required to complete a drug treatment program upon release and will be supervised by Etowah County Community Corrections.
