Coleman Testifies in Hubbard Hearing
A prosecutor's conversations with a political operative took center stage today in House Speaker Mike Hubbard's effort to dismiss his ethics case. Political consultant Baron Coleman, who for years had been Hubbard's political enemy, testified in Lee County Circuit Court that he had as many as 100 conversations with special prosecutor Matt Hart over a three-year-period. He said he used conclusions he took from those conversations to try to damage Hubbard politically while working for Hubbard's 2014 primary opponent. Hubbard is scheduled to go to trial March 28 on ethics charges accusing him of using his public position as speaker, and former post as Alabama Republican Party chairman, to benefit his clients and businesses.
