A Southside man winds up in jail on charges that he was in possession of a controlled substance. 36-year-old Derrick McCormick was stopped by deputies on Highway 77 in Southside for a moving violation on Tuesday. According to the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, during the traffic stop, McCormick became extremely nervous and was noticeably shaking.The deputy ran his narcotics trained K-9 around the exterior area of McCormick's car. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of two bags of methamphetamine from McCormick's pants pocket. McCormick was taken to the Etowah County Detention Center. He was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance. McCormick's bond was set at $1500.
