Two Local Police Officers Honored for Heroism

Two Anniston Police Department officers are honored by the Sons of the American Revolution for their brave and heroic acts in the line of duty. Officers Johnell Willis and Justin Hise both received a medal for heroism at the Public library of Anniston and Calhoun County today. Anniston Police Department Chief Shane Denham says officers do courageous deeds everyday across the nation. The call the two officers were rewarded for took place in June of 2015. Willis and Hise say you never know what kind of call you are going on. They say they went home safe because they were trained properly. Willis and Hise say today’s recognition is a great honor. Sons of the American Revolution Cheaha Chapter President Ed Killgore says his organization recognizes the outstanding members of the community who perform good citizenship. Killgore says today’s awards are right in line with their three main goals: which are historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Killgore says the organization is a historic all male genealogical society made up of descendants of someone who participated in the Revolutionary War. They meet once a month on the second Wednesday of each month at 12:30PM in the Public library of Anniston and Calhoun County on the second floor.
