The Calhoun County Commission honors a soon-to-be 100 year old Piedmont woman with a commission proclamation in time for her upcoming birthday. Pauline “Polly” Putnam was born on March 28th, 1916. She had two brothers and a sister and she outlived them all. Commissioners say the proclamation highlights Putnam’s continued involvement as an integral member of society. The Commission honored Putnam because she is a living link to history. Putnam says she has been alive for every Alabama Crimson Tide Championship football game. She adds that she’s a big fan of Alabama and the Piedmont High School football Team. Family and friends say Putnam is an active centenarian who displays a positive attitude and she is a role model for the future of aging and inspires us to age excellently. Putnam graduated as salutatorian from Piedmont High School in 1934, and attended Jacksonville State Teachers College. Putnam’s church - Piedmont First Baptist Church – will host a birthday party for her on March 20th to celebrate her 100th birthday.
