Bone Marrow Registry Campaign

Jacksonville State University, the Jacksonville Association of Nursing Students and the Nurses Christian Fellowship in coordination with Be the Match bone marrow registry joined together on the JSU campus today to host a bone marrow donor testing center. Gina Rittenberg, daughter of Jacksonville State University alumna Joan Alexander McDonald -class of ’73 -received some devastating news while undergoing routine blood work last August. And, her single hope for a cure is a bone marrow transplant from a compatible donor. Be the Match Community Engagement Representative Rachel Harris says she is at today’s bone marrow drive to dispel some of the myths about bone marrow donation. More than 80 people took part in today’s registry. According to Be the Match, more than 14-thousand patients every year don’t have a match. All you need to do to Be the Match is be between the ages of 18 and 44, willing to donate to any patient in need, and meet health guidelines. For more information visit Be the Match,
