A local chamber of Commerce is protecting its economy by establishing a committee to protect the retention and growth of its military, federal civilian and homeland defense forces in the area. The Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce announces the revival of the Military and Security Affairs Committee, a unique branch of the Chamber of Commerce. Military and Security Affairs Sub-Committee Co-Chair Greg Brown says back in the days of BRAC and the closure of Fort McClellan, Calhoun County had a very active military affairs sub-committee. Brown says within the last decade of growth and the war effort there was an uptick in the number of people employed by local military organizations. But, now these jobs have decreased and the organizations only employ more than 6000 people compared to their peak of more than 10,000. He says this effort is to help community members see their tax dollars at work and the actual work accomplished to keep the country safe. Brown says, Each quarter, the Chamber’s Military and Security Affairs Committee will be featuring one of these organizations – The 167thTheater Army Sustainment Command, The Ft McClellan Army National Guard Training Center , The Center for Domestic Preparedness, or The Anniston Army Depot. He adds, membership is voluntary but encouraged. Annual Membership Dues, which will be used exclusively for MSAC activities, are $50 and will be billed separately.
