Highway 68 West from Leesburg to Sand Rock remains closed. The Alabama Department of Transportation says the contractor has finished drilling the soil nails – and that the next step will be installation of the Gabion cage and erosion control mats and grassing. These final steps could take up to two weeks depending on the weather. Then the State DOT will reinstall guardrails and repave the damaged asphalt. All-in-all it looks as though it’ll be about a month before things are back to normal.
