Today in Anniston’s Centennial Memorial Park you may have seen some construction going on. Work has started on the Alabama Law Enforcement Memorial. Alabamians will have a spot to honor Alabama’s law enforcement men and women who died protecting our cities, counties and state. There will be over 530 names engraved on these walls. The cost of the memorial is $40,000; $25,000 for the building of the memorial and $14,000 for the black granite with the engraving. The men and women honored on the memorial will go back to the 1900s. According to officials, each time an officer falls in the line of duty; in 3 days from the funeral that person’s name will be engraved. The wall has been built to last for over 200 years. The memorial unveiling will take place on Law Enforcement Day, May 13th.
