A controlled burn was conducted today at the Mountain Longleaf National Wildlife Refuge near McClellan and Anniston. The Talladega Ranger District burned 500 acres today, 6 miles south of Oxford in the Duck Nest area. Smoke was visible from Alabama Highway 21 and 280 and from the Oxford area. As the temperatures cooled today, the smoke began to settle down Salt Creek towards Salt Creek Road. Some settling also took place around the general area of the burn on the forest.
