State senators are expected to debate a proposed education budget that could give a pay raise to most teachers and school employees. The Alabama Senate Ways and Means Education Committee will debate and vote on the proposed budget Tuesday afternoon. The House-passed spending plan would give a four percent pay raise to most public school teachers and employees. Senate budget chairman Arthur Orr said he hopes the Senate will maintain the same raise amount. Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh said he would like the full Senate will vote on the budget Wednesday. The legislative session could last through May 16th However, some lawmakers have said they would like to wrap up the session early after finishing the education budget.
