Talladega National Forest Controlled Burn

The Talladega National Forest Shoal Creek Ranger District burned more than 1200 acres today. The controlled burn took place 6 miles North of Heflin. The wind carried the smoke to the north towards the Rabbit town area and also impacted some portions to the north of this area. As the temperatures cooled later in the day, the smoke began to settle down drainage toward the Pine Glen camp and Highrock drainage areas. During today’s burn, you may have noticed Forest Service fire crews and equipment along Forest Service Roads 500 and 553 which extend along the northwest and north boundary.
