4% Raise for Public Schoolteachers

The Alabama Senate committee approved a $6-point-3 billion spending plan after making few changes to the House-passed budget. Now, Most public schoolteachers, administrators and employees will get a 4% pay raise next fiscal year under legislation and a budget approved by a Senate committee. According to State Senator Cam Ward – the Senate approved the pay increase today. Teachers and school employees making less than $75,000 annually would get a 4% raise. Employees making more than that would get a 2% raise. The committee went along with a suggestion by Committee Chairman Arthur Orr also to give principals and assistant principals a 4% raise regardless of current pay. Now the bill goes to the Governor Bentley’s desk for his signature.
