The City Council of Jacksonville approves a project to excavate and backfill the sinkhole at Chief Ladiga Trail. According to Jacksonville City Administrator Jarrod Simmons, the Council approved the plan on Monday. Simmons says it will be a joint effort between the city and the Calhoun County Commission. The city will purchase materials and the cost for labor and equipment will be shared by both the Commission and the City. $25,000 in materials will be paid by the city. The city recently had an engineering firm investigate the sinkhole. Simmons says they are still discovering how deep and wide the hole is. The plan is for crews to dig down and build up the area with rocks, dirt, and geo-fabric materials.
