One local elementary school is dealing with a suspected bat infestation. According to Talladega City Schools Interim Superintendent Frank Costanzo, people began complaining about a strong odor near Graham Elementary school’s entrance. The smell even made some students sick. Costanzo says a dead bat was discovered in the school’s attic during an inspection and it was determined that the school had signs of bats in the building. Costanzo adds that since bats are endangered, if any are found, they will be relocated rather than exterminated. Crews would then seal the school and fumigate. The school will be closed through the weekend. He anticipates the school re-opening on Monday.
