Grant To Assist Domestic Violence Investigations

Governor Robert Bentley awards more than $62,000 in a grant to assist with the investigation and prosecution of domestic violence cases in Etowah County. The Etowah County Commission is using grant funds to support the Sheriff’s Office’s Domestic Violence Unit. Local matching funds of more than $20,000 are supplementing the grant. Personnel with the unit investigate cases involving domestic violence and sexual assault in the county and aid in the prosecution of those cases. The unit also trains area law enforcement officers on how to enforce protection orders and how to spot signs of abuse.
