JSU Softball Enjoying Historic Start In OVC

Wednesday, April 20, 2016

With eleven conference championship trophies in their case, the JSU softball program is very familiar with success. As the ladies head towards the homestretch of their season, they look to be on the way to another title.

TV24 Sports dropped by practice Tuesday afternoon at University Field as they prepare for another weekend of conference play. The Gamecocks currently sit atop the OVC standings with a perfect 17-0 conference record. JSU has won its last 21 regular season conference games and extended the best start to league play in school history.

A large part of their success is due to one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation. The Gamecocks battled against Alabama (currently No. 4), Missouri (No. 12), Georgia (No. 19) and defending champion Florida (No. 1). The team used the challenges at the beginning of the year to gel when it matters most.

Up next, JSU is on the road against Austin Peay in a doubleheader on Saturday followed by another doubleheader Sunday at Murray State.
