Former Oxford Star Jackson Stephens Ready To Face The Barons

Former Oxford high school baseball star Jackson Stephens will take the mound in Birmingham on Friday. Stephens plays for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the Cincinnati Reds organization and is one of the five starters on the team's rotation. Stephens will suit up against the Barons, a team he watched many times as a young player. TV24 Sports caught up with Stephens over the phone when the Blue Wahoos arrived in the Magic City on Thursday.

Jackson's father, Jay Stephens, is an assistant coach for the Oxford baseball team and his Yellow Jackets are in the second round of the 6A state playoffs on Friday night. Jackson Stephens led the Florida State league in wins last year on the Double-A level. So far this season, he is 1-1 with a 3.12 ERA in three starts. He has posted 21 strikeouts in just over 17 innings of work. He says it is great to be back close to home.

The Blue Wahoos and Barons will square off at 7:05 pm Friday night at Regions Park in Birmingham.
