Gadsden State Community College celebrates the end of Community College month with a breakfast to honor local heroes. The East Alabama college partnered with the Gadsden Civitan Club, the Gadsden Kiwanis Club and the Gadsden Lions Club to host the breakfast this morning on the school's East Broad Campus. The breakfast honored East Alabama individuals from all walks of life who actively make a difference in the lives of others. In all, six people received the Everyday Hero Award this morning. Staci Coffey, a nursing instructor from the school's McClellan Campus – Marie Johnson, the Executive Director of the Family Success Center in Gadsden – Jennifer Mackey, Town Clerk of Leesburg and the owner of Build-N-Block Daycare - Michelle Payne, the Executive Director of HOPE Women's Services and Sav-A-Life in Calhoun County – Jon Richardson, a Goodyear employee, community volunteer and a leader on the Goodyear Action Team – and, Dr. Cynthia Toles, a member of the Gadsden City Council and director of the faith-based outreach program called GLOBE. Gadsden State hopes to make the Everyday Heroes Awards Breakfast an annual event.
