A local elementary school celebrates the accomplishments of their sister high school seniors with a last time Senior walk through of their elementary school. Ohatchee Elementary School invited graduating seniors from Ohatchee High School to walk the hallways and stairs of their elementary school while students cheered along and gave high-fives to passing soon-to-be graduates.Kindergarten teachers Regina Bailey and Susan say before the visit they talked to their students about what the seniors had to achieve before becoming graduating seniors. They talked about completing the sixth grade and what it takes to graduate high school. The teachers said their students especially enjoyed encouraging the seniors. They added that they remembered many of them – Making today a little emotional. 2016 Ohatchee High School senior and class valedictorian Taylor Calhoun says she started in the Ohatchee school system when she was in the second grade. She intends to attend University of Alabama in Huntsville and major in Atmospheric Science specializing in Meteorology. She says today’s experience is surreal. She adds that the elementary students are so happy to see them and they have such a love for them. 2016 Ohatchee High School senior and class salutatorian Makenzie Hanks says she has been in the Ohatchee school system since kindergarten. She is going to Jacksonville State University after graduation and will be majoring in Dietetics. Both teachers and students think today’s activities is a good tradition to do every year. They say it’s a way to remember the difference the students and teachers have made in each other’s lives.
