The Gadsden Civil Service Board has voted to temporarily fill the Gadsden Police Chief position. Board member J. Holland confirms that Captain Lamar Jaggears was selected as acting chief of police on Tuesday afternoon after the board interviewed four candidates. Jaggears has been with the Gadsden Police Department for 25 years. The chief’s job will be posted and applications will be accepted for two weeks. Holland adds that the board is making an effort to hire from within the department. The Gadsden Police Chief position is open due to the retirement of Chief John Crane who has held the position since 2012. Crane’s retirement is effective on May 6th.
