Revised Ordinance Vote This Week

Tuesday, May 10, 2016

An Oxford City Councilor calls a meeting to discuss the revision of an ordinance that would impose criminal penalties on people for using a restroom that doesn't match their gender at birth. Oxford City Council Member Charlotte Hubbard held a press conference on Saturday at the Oxford Civic Center to discuss the council’s plans to work on improving the bathroom ordinance. Hubbard says the revised version both honors Christian values and complies with Federal Law. Hubbard adds that the original ordinance was sloppy and that the city could have avoided controversy. She says she hopes that people will reflect on the situation and see that it is possible for people to disagree without viewing each other as enemies. The revised ordinance will be submitted for a discussion and a vote this Thursday night.
