Bathroom Law Revision

Friday, May 13, 2016

The Oxford City Council does not consider a revised proposal regarding the use of public bathrooms in the city. The new proposal would have criminalized assault of any kind in a public bathroom and levied a $6,000 fine or one year of jail time for anyone convicted of a violation. The newly revised ordinance came after Councilor Charlotte Hubbard and two other council members voted to recall the original ordinance that restricted bathroom use according to the gender displayed on a person’s birth certificate. Hubbard proposed the revised ordinance last Saturday. According to reports, council members decided against putting the ordinance on the agenda during their pre-council meeting.
