The Westbrook Christian girls soccer team will play for a state championship on Friday in Huntsville. The Warriors eliminated Madison Academy with a dominating 6-0 win in Thursday's Class 1A-3A semifinals.
Sophomore Kylee Berndt scored three goals and junior Alexis Beard added two in the win. Coach Joel Hawbaker’s Warriors controlled the match from start to finish despite two interruptions caused by lightning delays. Mary Reid Goodwin and Makenna Beard had one assist each for Westbrook. Goalkeeper Mattie Lloyd had one save as the Warriors defense limited the Mustangs (18-6-1) to just one shot on goal.
The victory sets up a battle of unbeaten Friday at 5 p.m. at Huntsville’s John Hunt Soccer Complex in the Class a1A-3A girls finals versus Holy Spirit Catholic (16-0-0). All finals will be live-streamed over the NFHS Network Friday and Saturday.
