Jacksonville State will play in the Auburn Regional beginning Friday at Jane B. Moore Field, where the Gamecocks will face the No. 4 Tigers at 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN3.
The Ohio Valley Conference Champion Gamecocks gathered on the fifth floor of JSU Stadium Tower on Sunday night to watch the NCAA Division I Softball Selection Show. The crowd erupted when JSU's name was called the destination of its seventh NCAA Regional in school history.
The Gamecocks (41-15) will take the No. 4 National Seed Tigers (49-9) in the four-team field that also includes Oregon State and USC Upstate, who will face each other at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
It will be the 16th time JSU and Auburn have met on the softball diamond, with the Tigers holding a 14-1 advantage in the series and an 8-0 advantage at home. They have met in the postseason once, an Auburn win in the elimination round of the 2010 Atlanta Regional. JSU has never played Oregon State but has faced USC Upstate once, in the 2013 Tuscaloosa Regional.
The Gamecocks earned the OVC's automatic bid after winning the OVC Tournament last weekend in Oxford, Ala. JSU claimed the regular-season title after posting a 26-0 league mark and entered the postseason on a 17-game win streak. It's school-record 20-game win streak was snapped in the Championship Round of the OVC Tournament, but JSU roared back in the winner-take-all title game against SIU-Edwardsville with a 6-1 win.
JSU enters the Auburn Regional having won 32 of its last 34 games. The Gamecocks became just the second team in OVC history to finish the league schedule unbeaten, joining the 1994 Tennessee Tech squad that went 17-0.
