A full training initiative for kids to safely learn how to paddle kayaks at no cost to participating families receives a generous donation from a local business. The Alabama Power Foundation presented a $15-thousand grant to the Alabama Scenic River Trail Association to support the initiative. 4-H RiverKids sponsored through the Alabama Cooperative Extension System is the program.RiverKids is a safe, effective way to teach paddling to kids whether they’ve ever been around the water or not. According to officials the qualified instruction is in a safe, supervised environment and teaches both teamwork and independence. It also teaches stewardship and fellowship that will last a lifetime. RiverKids, was established in 2013 by the Alabama Scenic River Trail with help from the National Park Service, Legacy Partners in Environmental Education, The Alabama R C & D Council Association and the Calhoun County Commission.
