Residents at a local retirement village enjoy a simple and worry-free way to grow flowers, vegetables and herbs without soil and without the stress of bending over and overworking aching knees and backs. Legacy Village of Jacksonville has introduced aeroponics to community members. Community Relations Director Nicole Smith says they have stations around the facility full of fruits, vegetables and herbs. She says residents are very excited because they get to nurture something of their own and they don’t have to garden in the dirt. Mary Catherine Fordham says the process of seeing the plants grow and tending to them is very enjoyable. She says she loves not having to bend over. She thinks it’s great that they can all do this. There are three aeroponic systems at the village.
