If hitting the public pool this summer is on your mind, officials say safety should be as well. This in the wake of a new study looking at how many public swimming centers are running into problems with safety regulations… According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention there are some things you need to know before hitting the public pools. A recent government study looked at 48,000 US locations where people regularly swim and play in chemically treated water and found that 80% of them had at least one violation. One in eight of them had to be shut down immediately because of the severity of the violation. The study also found that one in five had been closed at one point for one violation or another. The common issues — improper PH levels, safety equipment problems and issues with the disinfectant concentration. Officials say don’t avoid swimming pools, but rather seek out safety inspection reports before you dive in.
