Hardin Pleads Guilty in Daughter's Running Death

Saturday, June 4, 2016

Jessica Mae Hardin, the stepmother of Savannah Hardin, appeared before a judge today and pled guilty to Aggravated Child Abuse. The charge was based on the February 2012 death of 9 year old Savannah Hardin. According to Etowah County District Attorney Jody Willoughby, Hardin was sentenced to twenty years in the state penitentiary. That sentence was split, providing for a period of three years to be served. Hardin received credit for time she served in the Etowah County Detention Center prior to posting bond in the case, and the balance of the split sentence was diverted to the Etowah County Community Corrections Program. Savannah Hardin died days after investigators say she was forced to run for more than three hours as punishment. Hardin was charged because prosecutors say she did not intervene on the child’s behalf.
