While some students are soaking in the Summer sun, eight Oxford High School students have been developing leadership skills. Two students, Kate Love and Caleb Lambert, were voted as SkillsUSA state officers and will represent the state of Alabama at the national conference. Kate Love has qualified as a candidate for national officer and will campaign while in Louisville. The students are members of the Oxford High School SkillsUSA student organization and will attend the 52ND annual National Leadership and Skills leadership conference, June 20TH through 24TH, in Louisville, Kentucky. More than 16,000 students, teachers, and business partners are expected to attend the conference this year. Oxford High School Principal Chris Cox says SkillsUSA is a great program. SkillsUSA is a “partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce." The students are all enrolled in the Career Technical Education Graphic Communications program at Oxford High School. Six of the students placed first at the state conference in April and will compete in 3-D Animation & Design, Career Pathway Showcase, and Web Design.
