Elder Abuse Summit

An organization whose mission is to enhance the quality of life of aging persons living in Etowah County hosts a summit to unite the community against elder abuse. The Council on Aging of Etowah County held its 11th Annual Elder Abuse Summit at the Senior Activity Center in Gadsden. Today is Elder Abuse Awareness Day and officials say today’s theme One Person.  One Action. One Nation.  United Against Elder Abuse  is to make sure that all senior citizens living in Etowah County are educated, informed, and safe. Etowah County District Attorney Jody Willoughby was a featured speaker and he stressed elder neglect awareness. He says it is just as serious as physical or financial abuse.The event had several speakers including Gadsden Mayor Sherman Guyton, Etowah County DHR Representative Teresa Sauls, and many other leaders from agencies and businesses in the community. The event was also hosted by Helping Elders Live Protected Coalition.
