One local community puts on a local Father's Day festival to help acknowledge the contribution of fathers to individual families and to societies at large. Cedars Green Apartments Property Manager Sujuanda Coleman says today’s observance of Father's Day provides children an opportunity to express love and respect for both present and absentee fathers. The children have created hand-crafted father’s day cards and a banner. Coleman says the sentiment goes a long way in strengthening the father-child relationship and consequently in the emotional development of the children. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 24 million children in America -- one out of every three -- live in biological father-absent homes. And, with Father’s Day this weekend, children without daddy in the home may have a more difficult time appreciating the significance of the day. Coleman says 30 children ages newborn to 16-years-old participated in today’s event.
