Medicare Patients Receive Prescriptions for Commonly Abused Opioids

42% of Alabama Medicare beneficiaries received at least one prescription for commonly abused opioids last year. According to a federal report from the Office of Inspector General for the US Department of Health and Human Services nearly one-third of US beneficiaries in the Part-D prescription drug program had prescriptions for opioids such as OxyContin.
