Dedication Ceremony for Anniston Civil Rights Trail

Saturday, June 25, 2016

One little girl’s resounding voice sings of freedom, justice, redemption, and hope at a special ribbon cutting. Today, the city of Anniston hosted the Anniston Civil Rights Trail Dedication Ceremony at Seventeenth Street Baptist Church in Anniston. Civil Rights Movement leader, Dr. William McClain gave the keynote address. Anniston Mayor Vaughn Stewart says he grew up in the sixties and believes today’s event took place on sacred ground. He says the day to recognize the trailblazers of the past has been coming a long time. The trail is a pathway of nine historic sites connected to Anniston’s civil rights history. The Civil Rights and Heritage Trail Committee began in 2010 to preserve not only the sites, but also the memory of the events that took place.
