A local non-profit’s signature volunteer event brings neighbors and resources together to improve their local community. The United Way of East Central Alabama Day of Action partners volunteer teams from companies throughout the county with local non-profit agencies through a one day, hands-on, event to assist with improvement projects. Today, United Way volunteers were painting and cleaning rooms at Alexandria High School. Board Chair Tommie Goggans says, the event provides participants with a glimpse into the needs of our community, encourages deeper community involvement, and fosters a sense of unity between volunteers. This year, 185 volunteers spent the day helping numerous local non-profit agencies with projects that would ordinarily go undone. Last year, more than 1,200 volunteer hours were logged on this one day alone, allowing the agencies to continue providing important and necessary services to the people of Calhoun County.
