Officer Involved Shooting in Etowah County

Etowah County authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred this afternoon in a rural part of the county. The incident happened at a home on Owens Drive - just off of Fairview Road - in the northeastern part of the county. According to a press release from the Etowah County Sheriff's Office, Jeremy Abbas Ronagh fired shots at sheriff's deputies and a Gadsden police officer as they were trying to speak with him about a burglary. According to the sheriff's office, Ronagh has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1997, and had recently been revoked from state probation and placed with Community Corrections. The suspect has been transported to a Birmingham hospital with what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured in the incident. JSU's Center for Applied Forensics is collecting and preserving evidence; and the Oxford Police Department will be the investigating agency.
