A new state law that took effect July 1st gives school districts the option of installing cameras on school buses. The goal of the cameras is to help law enforcement officers track down drivers who blow past stop sign arms on school buses. State law requires drivers to stop for a school bus. However, this new law empowers school districts to watch for violators. The revenue generated from those ticketed for failing to stop for the school buses will go to the school system, the county or municipality, the Alabama Department of Education, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
