SEC Media Days (Monday)

Tuesday, July 12, 2016

The college football season officially kicks off in 52 days, but today serves as the unofficial start to the season. Over 1,200 credentialed members of the press made their way to Hoover for SEC Media Days.

Two years removed from their run to the national championship game, the Auburn Tigers are looking to take a step forward in 2016. This time last year Auburn was the favorite to win the SEC title, but after a 7-6 season with just two SEC wins, the expectations are low this time around. It’s a position they do not mind being in and use it as motivation. The Tigers are still looking for the guy to lead them on offense. Malzahn and the players agree that the battle for the starting quarterback job has been good. The Florida Gators will be entering season number 2 with head coach Jim McElwain. The Gators lost their last three games last season. One to their rival Florida State. They also lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship and to Michigan in the Citrus Bowl. Those losses will be used at motivation for the players and the coaches heading into the 2016 season. (The featured video has comments from head coach Jim McElwain, OL David Sharpe and LB Jarrad Davis.)

The Vanderbilt Commodores won three games in Derek Mason’s first year as head coach and followed it up with four wins last season (including their first two conference wins). They are still far from their goals, but Mason says the team is hungry for more and have been putting in the work to get there. (The featured vidoe has comments from head coach Derek Mason.)
